Getting ready to ride? With spring here, this time of year brings the perfect cycling weather! The people of Seattle are biking through the city as a way of transportation, or simply enjoying a nice ride outside. No matter what your cycling goals are, your bike should be comfortable and efficient.
At Renew Physical Therapy, we offer a Bike Fitting program to examine your posture and movement on your bike, make adjustments to your bike, and provide post-fit adjustments if needed. Our program is intended to help you get fitted and comfortable riding long distances on your bike.
Here are three common movement dysfunctions that can hinder your cycling:
- Seat Too High or Too Low: If your bike seat is too high or too low, it causes an inefficient pedal stroke and can be the cause of pain in your knees.
- Hiking Shoulders: Experiencing shrugging and stiff shoulders? Correct the positioning on your bike to relax your shoulders down. This will reduce strain and pain on your shoulders and neck.
- Knee Valgus Movement: Are your knees caving in toward one another when you bike? Keep your knees in line with your hips. Avoid letting them come too close to the top tube of your bike.
If you’re a cyclist and experiencing any pain when you ride, please contact Renew Physical Therapy and ask us about our Bike Fitting Program.
