Water sport safety is more than wearing a life jacket. Once you know the types of injuries that can occur, we can learn ways to prevent these injuries so you can continue doing the activities you love.

At Renew Physical Therapy, we share four tips to prevent injuries when doing water sports:

  1. Stay Hydrated: Just because you are in the water, doesn’t mean you don’t need to drink water. Drinking water keeps your muscles from cramping and strains, which is especially important in extreme water sports.
  2. Stretch: Stretching warms up your muscles and increases your range of motion. This helps prevent injury and muscle strains while improving your flexibility.
  3. Take a Break: Water sports can be vigorous exercise. Allow yourself a chance to catch a breath and relax your muscles when necessary.
  4. Know Your Limits: Do not risk the chance of getting hurt, especially if you are inexperienced. Increase intensity gradually. If you experience any injuries, contact us at Renew Physical Therapy!
